Treatment Focus:

Trauma

Attachment therapy explores how one’s early life experiences impact their ability to form bonds and build relationships as adults.

What does trauma look like?

Early Childhood:

Early childhood traumas can include physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, neglect, or exposure to violence or traumatic events. These experiences can lead to feelings of fear, shame, guilt, and powerlessness, as well as symptoms such as nightmares, flashbacks, and emotional numbing. If these experiences and symptoms are not properly addressed, they can have a negative impact on a child’s development and well-being.

Adolescence:

Adolescents who have experienced trauma may struggle with feelings of isolation and anger, and may engage in risky behaviors such as substance abuse, self-harm, or reckless behavior. They may also have difficulty with trust and forming healthy relationships, and may have a hard time regulating their emotions. Trauma therapy can help adolescents process their experiences and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

Adulthood:

Traumatic events or experiences in adulthood can include physical or emotional abuse, exposure to violence, or life-threatening accidents or illnesses. These experiences can lead to symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD, as well as difficulty forming or maintaining healthy relationships, and difficulty with trust and intimacy. Trauma therapy can help adults process their experiences and move forward in their lives.

Treating Attachment Difficulties

As a counselor, I use a variety of techniques to help my clients process and overcome their traumatic experiences, including talk therapy, EMDR, and other forms of trauma-focused therapy. My goal is to help my clients understand and process their experiences, and develop healthy coping mechanisms to move forward in their lives.
